S.G.M.I. New Inn, Glanmire

On  Thursday 3rd Dec,  members of the Navy visited New Inn School, Glanmire and presented us with the Irish flag.

There is great excitement in New Inn at the moment as students are watching the incubator closely. So far three chicks have hatched and some cracks have appeared on other eggs this morning so we’re hoping for more arrivals today. The 6th class students are caring for these chicks and other classes have been busy visiting the incubator in the hope of seeing a chick hatch.

There is fabulous smell of baking wafting through the school today as students from 3rd and 4th class made beautiful pancakes this morning and this evening students from 4th and 5th class are busy making a start on their Christmas Cake.

Many of our students made jelly last week. The students have been working hard on reading recipes and following instructions. Students made and ate orange and strawberry jelly with ice-cream.

3 teams from 6th Class represented New Inn NS in the Munster School League Table Tennis Competition held in Kinsale on the 19th November. All three teams won gold – an achievement which all school members are extremely proud of. This is the first time all 3 teams received gold medals.  Team A: Sean O’ Connell, Cian Mulcahy, Sean Murphy and Alex Bennett. Team B: Alan O Regan, Eoin Cusack, Cian Cahill and Eoghan O’ Callaghan. Team C: Matthew Karwelis, Darragh Hurley, Aaron O Brien and Alex O’ Brien. A special word of thanks to Grace O’ Callaghan, Paddy O’ Connell, Nicky Mulcahy and Martha Karwelis for driving students to and from the competition. Thanks also to Mr Power for organising and coaching the teams.

Our open night for parents of new Junior Infant students will be held on the evening of Tues 12th January.

We will hold our annual carol service in Glanmire Church (St Joseph’s Church) on the evening of Tuesday 15th December.  We will update you with the starting time of carol service in the coming weeks.

The majority of parent teacher meetings will take place on Thursday 19th November. As a result of this we will close at 12 o’ clock on Thursday 19th November. Many parents have already been given appointment times – if the day does not suit please contact the office or write a note to the class teacher asap.
