1916 Commemoration

Today our students took part in activities to commemorate 1916. The following was the programme of events

Mr Crowley Class:

  1. Poem: The Wayfarer by Padraig Pearse
  2. Irish dancing – Molly O Neill
  3. Song: Oró sé do bheatha ‘bhaile

Mrs O Regan’s Class:

  1. Poem: The Mother – by Padraig Pearse
  2. Song: Grace (Joseph Mary Plunkett)
  3. Our Proclamation

Mr Power’s Class:

  1. Poem: I see his blood upon the Rose by Joseph Plunkett
  2. Padraig Pearse – Graveside Oration for O Donovan Rossa
  3. Song: A Nation Once Again

All students marched around the school building as the flag was raised. Sarah Murray read the proclamation and this was followed with the singing of the National Anthem.

It was a beautiful ceremony, one which we are sure our students will remember for years to come. Well done to all for their hard work and enthusiasm.

World Book Day – New Books for our library

We are very fortunate to have received 110 new books for our library today. Titles include: One Good Turn 1916, Star Wars – Adventures in Wild Space, The Great Mouse Plot, The Boy who could do what he liked, Daisy and the Trouble with Jack and Jack and the Trouble with Daisy.

1916 Commemoration

Tuesday 15th March: A wide range of activities have been organised for next Tuesday in conjunction with the 1916 commemorations. Classes have been preparing songs, poems, drama and projects. We are looking forward to raising the Irish Flag. Students will wear their full uniform on the day.

Wednesday 16th March: Students may dress up in clothes to celebrate St Patrick’s Day or as characters from 1916. A prize will be given to the ‘best dressed’ in each class.

Upcoming School Holidays

March/ April: Half day on Wed 16th March for Easter Holidays. School will reopen 4th April.

April/ May: The school will be closed on Friday 29th April and Monday and Tuesday 2nd/3rd May

June: The school will be closed on Monday 6th June and will close for Summer Holidays on 28th June at 12 o’ clock.

Table Tennis Munster Finals

We took part in the Munster Schools Table Tennis Competition held in Kinsale in March. Our A & C teams received gold medals and our B team won silver. A Team: Cian Mulcahy, Sean O’ Connell, Sean Murphy and Alex Bennett. B Team: Eoin Cusack, Alan O Regan, Eoghan O’ Callaghan and Cian Cahill. C Team: Mateuse Karwelis, Aaron O’ Brien, Darragh Murphy and Alex O’ Brien.

Under 14 All- Ireland Snooker Championship

Sean Walsh, 6th class, won the Under 14 All- Ireland Snooker Championship. Sean has now qualified to represent Ireland in the next round – the Celtic Challenge. We are very proud of his achievements.

Confirmation

Congratulations to all involved in the Confirmation Ceremony held in Glanmire Church on Friday. The class were exemplary – the students were extremely well prepared – well done to all involved especially the students and  their teacher Mr Power, the choir, their conductor Mrs O’ Sullivan, musician Liam Dinan and Angela for all her help. We would also like to acknowledge the beautiful ceremony given by the priests of the parish along with Archbishop Coveney.

Photographs will be taken in the school library  on Tues morning 8th March. Photos will be added to the website tomorrow also.
